The Sicilian Defence
Step 1 of 6
This opening is called the Sicilian Defence: 1.e4 c5. Black doesn't copy White's move. The pawn on c5 looks at the d4 square and makes it harder for White to play d4.
Watch the Open Sicilian: White opens the centre and Black develops its pieces.
Move 0 of 10
Play Black: c5, d6, cxd4, Nf6 and a6 in turn. White makes its own moves.
Task in progress
Now play White. This time Black develops with Nc6: e4, Nf3, d4, Nxd4 and Nc3 in turn.
Task in progress
Black played 1...c5. Which centre square does this pawn fight for?
Task in progress
Develop a knight and attack the pawn on e4 at the same time.
