The opposition
Step 1 of 7
The two kings stand on the same file with one square between them: d4. Kings can never stand next to each other, so neither can go to d4. The side to move must step aside or back. Standing face to face like this when it is your opponent's move is called the opposition. Here Black is to move, so White has the opposition.
Watch how White takes the opposition.
Move 0 of 3
Bring your king forward. When the black king comes, stand right in front of it with one square between them.
Task in progress
Take your king forward and take the opposition. Keep your king ahead of your pawn.
Task in progress
Use the opposition to make your pawn a queen. First get your king in front of the pawn.
