The London System
Step 1 of 6
This opening is called the London System: 1.d4 d5 2.Bf4. It is named after a tournament played in London in 1922. White builds the same setup against almost any reply. Look at the marked squares: pawns on c3, d4 and e3, a bishop on f4, knights on f3 and d2.
Watch the London System. Look at White's moves: the setup is always the same.
Move 0 of 11
Play White: d4, Bf4, e3, Nf3 and c3 in turn. Black makes its own moves.
Task in progress
Even when Black builds a different setup, the London stays the same. Play White again: d4, Bf4, e3, Nf3 and Be2 in turn.
Task in progress
Why does White bring the bishop to f4 before playing the pawn to e3?
Task in progress
Develop your knight on b1 too. In the London System this knight usually goes to d2.
