Keep your king safe
Step 1 of 6
White has castled: the king is on g1 with three pawns in front of it. The black king is still in the middle, on e8. When the centre pawns move and lines open, a king in the middle is in danger. Once your knight and bishop are out of the way, remember to castle.
Watch a trap for a king left in the middle.
Move 0 of 9
The position from the demo, and you are White. Move your knight to c6: your queen gives check and your knight attacks the black queen on d8.
Task in progress
The black bishop on b4 gives check. Can White castle now?
Task in progress
You are playing White. Your knight and bishop are out and nothing stands between the king and the rook. Make your king safe.
Task in progress
Play Black. Play e5, Nc6, Bc5 and Nf6 in turn, then castle: O-O. White makes its own moves.
