Develop your pieces
Step 1 of 6
Moving a piece off its first square into the game is called developing it. In the opening, develop a new piece with every move. Knights usually come out before bishops. The arrows show two good squares for the white knights: f3 and c3.
White develops its pieces, but Black keeps moving pawns on the edge. Watch and count the pieces that join the game.
Move 0 of 9
You are playing White. Develop a knight or a bishop that has not moved yet.
Task in progress
You are playing Black. Knights come before bishops: develop your other knight to a square that looks at the centre.
