Castling
Step 1 of 6
Castling is the only move in which two pieces move at once. The king moves two squares towards a rook, and the rook jumps over the king to its other side. When White castles kingside, the king goes to g1 and the rook to f1. When White castles queenside, the king goes to c1 and the rook to d1. Kingside castling is written O-O, queenside O-O-O.
The rules of castling: neither the king nor the rook may have moved before. There must be no pieces between them. The king may not be in check, and the square it crosses and the square it lands on may not be attacked.
Watch both castlings.
